The team of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality continues its work “in the field” in order to establish closer cooperation with local self-governments and ensure that protection against discrimination becomes more effective and accessible.
On this occasion, during his visit to the Municipality of Surčin, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, met with the President of the Municipality, Miloš Dangubić, and the Deputy President of the Belgrade City Assembly, Igor Jovanović. They agreed that only through joint efforts can lasting improvements in the field of human rights and equality be achieved, thereby contributing to a better quality of life for all citizens.
As a municipality undergoing rapid expansion and employing a large number of foreign workers, representatives of the Municipality of Surčin highlighted the importance of social integration and the creation of equal opportunities for all citizens.
During the discussions, particular attention was given to the topics of education and working with young people, as well as the need to improve the position of Roma men and women living in the municipality.
With regard to cooperation and support in providing free legal aid, the Commissioner’s team proposed organizing educational workshops for teachers and students on protection against discrimination in the coming period, as well as theatre performances intended for children and youth.
