A screening of the documentary film “Pele, Džaja, Slavka”, by author Dragana Kanjevac, was held at the European House in Belgrade. The theme of the film is the life path of Slavka Kanjevac, a pioneer of women’s football in Yugoslavia and one of the most successful female football players of her time. The story of breaking stereotypes and women who paved the way for new generations in sports reminds us of the power of personal stories and the importance of women’s visibility in society.
The production of the film was supported within the project “Education for Equality”, jointly implemented by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the British Council with the support of the Embassy of the United Kingdom.
Following the screening, a discussion was held with the film’s main protagonist, Slavka Kanjevac Pašti. That women’s football has a future was also demonstrated by the young Red Star football player Bojana Čupa, who through inspiring questions highlighted dilemmas important for girls striving for success in football.
The importance of such projects was discussed by the Head of the Department for International Cooperation of the Commissioner, Jelena Kotević, as well as the Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Belgrade, Dominic Otway, while the Head of Information, Communication and Press of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Manuel Munteanu, was also in attendance.
