Protocol on Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights Protection and Promotion of Equality Signed in Kragujevac

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, Acting Director of the Institute of Public Health Kragujevac, Professor Snežana Radovanović, and the Deputy Mayor of Kragujevac, Gordana Damnjanović, signed the Protocol on Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights Protection and Promotion of Equality.

This document represents an important step in strengthening institutional cooperation between a state body, a healthcare institution, and local self-government, sending a message to citizens that institutions care about every individual, and that anyone who suffers any form of inequality has somewhere to turn for help and support.

There is a range of affirmative measures, and through amendments to laws following the Commissioner’s initiatives, many bad practices have already been changed, and now in Kragujevac we are launching a new model by which we want to provide additional protection of the rights of all citizens and to be even closer to individuals and groups who are at greater risk of discrimination, such as persons with disabilities, women in rural areas, and national minorities, the Commissioner emphasized.

Antonijević announced that, in the coming months, activities will be carried out that will contribute to raising awareness and improving information on the protection of fundamental rights, which is also part of efforts to prevent discrimination.

In all fields, we must act systematically through prevention, education, but also have a clear, efficient institutional response in order to advance equality in all segments of society.
