The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, met with the Minister without Portfolio in charge of gender equality and the political and economic empowerment of women, Tatjana Macura, with whom he discussed the necessity of continuous cooperation in advancing gender equality.
Antonijević and Macura also agreed that joint engagement and a multisectoral approach are necessary to strengthen the capacities of institutions that are on the front line of defense against domestic violence – the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Centers for Social Work, and the Prosecutor’s Office, as well as that all religious communities should be recognized as important partners in preventing and combating violence to which women and girls are exposed. In this regard, the importance of appointing judges to the Constitutional Court was also highlighted, with the expectation that space will open in the coming period for consideration of the Law on Gender Equality, bearing in mind its importance for the legal framework for the protection and advancement of women’s human rights in the Republic of Serbia.
