The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, stated that pressures and attacks against civil society organizations, which hinder their work and endanger the safety of the people within them, are absolutely unacceptable.
He notes that, as a society, we have an obligation to ensure conditions for their free and unhindered work, as well as protection from every form of discrimination: “Serbia is developing an enabling environment for civil society organizations, allocates significant funds from the budget for their activities, and therefore attacks on the National Convention on the European Union and Civic Initiatives must not be tolerated.”
Strengthening democracy and creating a safe environment for the work of civil society, alongside the rule of law, media freedom, and full respect for human rights, represent the foundation of every democratic society and key conditions on Serbia’s European path, Antonijević emphasizes.
