The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, spoke about the importance of a sensitized approach in police work at the seminar “Recognizing and Responding to Discrimination”, held in Vrnjačka Banja.
The seminar gathered police officers from seven police directorates across Serbia – Kraljevo, Čačak, Prijepolje, Kruševac, Jagodina, Valjevo, and Užice – who face complex and demanding tasks on a daily basis, often in high-risk circumstances. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of understanding and careful approach, especially when assistance is sought by members of marginalized groups.
Through lectures and discussions, participants addressed topics such as different forms of discrimination, the role of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality within the protection system, the procedure for filing complaints, as well as the significance of quality communication in the exercise of police powers.
The seminar was organized thanks to the cooperation between the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
