On the occasion of November 16, the International Day for Tolerance, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, is organizing for the tenth time the competition for the Annual Media Award for the best media articles and reports on the topic of combating discrimination and promoting equality and tolerance.
The goal of the competition is to promote, through the media, values such as equality and tolerance, to combat prejudice and stereotypes against minority, marginalized, and vulnerable groups, as well as to increase the visibility of the institution of the Commissioner.
Eligible to participate in the competition are journalists from all print and electronic, local and national media registered in Serbia, who have published articles/reports on the competition topic between September 15, 2024, and September 15, 2025. More than one journalist from the same media outlet may participate, but only with one article/report each. Additionally, journalists who have won awards in the past two years may not apply for this year’s awards.
The evaluation criteria are: recognition of the phenomenon of discrimination, contribution to reducing stereotypes and prejudice, affirmative reporting, and promoting equality.
Media articles and reports should be sent by email no later than September 15, 2025, to: poverenik@ravnopravnost.gov.rs. The application for the competition should include the media report/article and a short biography with the author’s contact details. Application format: for radio and television – a link to the broadcasted report; for print and online media – a link or the published text in PDF format.
Awards are granted in three categories — first, second, and third prize — for:
- a radio or TV segment (up to 3 minutes) or report (up to 30 minutes)
- an article from daily or weekly print media/newspapers
- online media/portal video or text format
The professional jury consists of previous winners of the first prize in all three categories, as well as representatives of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the Media Department of the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
The best media pieces and the names of the authors will be announced at a conference traditionally held on November 16, on the occasion of the International Day for Tolerance, and will then be published on the website and social media pages of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
We believe that your media outlet will recognize the significance and importance of this competition and that you will encourage your colleagues to apply.
