It is encouraging that an increasing number of employers recognize the need for prevention and suppression of discrimination in the work environment, as well as the importance of establishing internal policies and mechanisms for respect for equality and socially responsible business, said Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, at the beginning of an educational meeting for employers on prevention and suppression of discrimination in the work environment in Kragujevac.
Representatives of 25 companies and the Kragujevac Chamber of Commerce attended the workshop “How to achieve equality in the workplace”. It was the third in a series of workshops that the Commissioner organized in cooperation with the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ) as part of the project “Improving equality in the field of work and employment”.
The workshop participants learned more about employers’ legal obligations regarding the prohibition of discrimination, protection mechanisms, and the role of the Commissioner’s institution. They also learned about companies’ experiences implementing inclusive policies through examples from practice. The meeting also presented practical guidelines for developing internal anti-discrimination policies: the Equality Code and the Instruction for Reasonable Adaptation of Workplaces and Jobs for Persons with Disabilities.
