It is encouraging to see a growing number of employers recognizing the importance of preventing and combating workplace discrimination, as well as the need to establish internal policies and mechanisms that promote equality and socially responsible business practices.
Today, an educational workshop titled “Achieving Workplace Equality” was held in Kragujevac, bringing together representatives from 20 companies and the Regional Chamber of Commerce for the Šumadija and Pomoravlje Administrative Districts. This marks the third in a series of workshops organized by the Commissioner for Protection of Equality in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) as part of the project “Improving Equality in Employment – A Joint Initiative for Workplace Equality.”
The opening remarks were delivered by Commissioner Janković and Predrag Lučić, Director of the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Kragujevac. In the working session, the company STADA/Hemofarm presented best practices from its business operations, showcasing its active implementation of internal policies aimed at preventing discrimination and human rights violations. The company has also joined the Partnership for Equality with the Commissioner.
Workshop participants had the opportunity to learn more about employers’ legal obligations regarding the prohibition of discrimination, available protection mechanisms, and the role of the Commissioner’s institution. Through real-world examples, they also gained insight into companies’ experiences in implementing inclusive policies. Additionally, practical guidelines for developing internal anti-discrimination policies were presented, including the Equality Code and the Guidelines for Reasonable Workplace Adjustments for Persons with Disabilities.
