Equally towards the goal for the thirteenth time at the Belgrade marathon

Equality in sports, the importance of equal opportunities, the strength of will, friendship, and good mood were an indispensable part of the action ” Equally towards the goal” held for the thirteenth time as part of the 37th Belgrade Marathon.

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality has been organizing this action for years in cooperation with the Sports Association of Persons with Disabilities Belgrade. The intention is to point out the problems faced by persons with disabilities in sports and when using public areas, facilities, and public city transport, which are primarily caused by discrimination.

Equal participation in various activities, including sports, is a prerequisite for a dignified life for all our fellow citizens with some form of disability, and with this action, we are not only pointing out their position but breaking prejudices about their possibilities. Draženko Mitrović, our most decorated athlete-Paralympian, Željko Dimitrijević, winner of nine gold medals in the cone discipline, Borislava Perić, the most successful table tennis player with disabilities in the world, but also everyone who is with us today, are examples of overcoming obstacles, inspiring us to constantly and everywhere stand for equality, said the Commissioner for the protection of equality, Brankica Janković.

Interested citizens had the opportunity to talk with the employees of our institution. They were most interested in what exactly discrimination is, how to recognize it, and what to do if they think that they or people close to them are being discriminated against, and many of them took the opportunity to hear the personal stories of the athletes present, some of whom won medals at the most important European competitions, and world competitions for para-athletes. After completing the “Recognize discrimination” test, they were presented with a symbolic gift, and the action was completed by a gathering at the start of the “Race of Pleasure.”
