STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY

Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic said that this year’s World Press Freedom Day was marked in the shadow of the KOVID 19 virus epidemic, which only confirmed the importance of reliable, accurate and timely information for citizens, and that the media is one of the key values ​​of any democratic society.

This is an opportunity to express gratitude to the media, because thanks to their reporting, the stories about the most endangered people reach the public, while at the same time, the information reached the most vulnerable. That is why the media are important allies and partners whose role and importance is immeasurable for any democratic society.

Freedom of expression and information must not be questioned and everyone is obliged to respect that freedom, and journalists must be provided with conditions to work freely, Commissioner says and emphasizes that the media should constantly improve the standards of professional and responsible reporting and promote values of tolerance, equality and mutual respect.
