Brankica Janković, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality spoke at the presentation of the publication entitled Institutional Barometer developed by the Coalition prEUgovor, analyzing the work and operation of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality which received support by the European Commission.
Commissioner Janković expressed her appreciation for the suggestions and recommendations given by the Autonomni ženski centar NGO (Autonomous Women’s Center) to the institution and contained in this publication stressing that invitations for discussion in such formats were very important. Namely, the analysis found that the number of complaints received by the Commissioner in 2017 were in decline when compared to 2016, that information released by the institution should aim to reach those belonging to marginalized groups, that the institution should persist in pursuing strategic litigations, and zero in on those who refuse to comply with the Commissioners recommendations. The Commissioner underlined that the institution’s 2016 – 2020 Strategic Development Plan coincides with those recommendations.
The Commissioner stated that in 2018 there was a spike in the number of complaints which is otherwise hard to predict. She conceded that certain groups need more support and assistance in filing complaints and that strategic litigation is indeed an important mechanism of action in the public domain.
In addition to the analysis of the work and operation of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality presented by Tanja Ignjatović of Autonomni ženski centar, findings regarding the work and operation of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection were presented by Dušan Šabić of Center for Applied European Studies, while Zlata Đorđević of Transparency Serbia presented the analysis of the work and operation of the Anti-corruption Agency.
