{"id":26011,"date":"2017-04-11T18:44:23","date_gmt":"2017-04-11T16:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ravnopravnost.gov.rs\/?p=26011\/"},"modified":"2017-04-12T13:32:34","modified_gmt":"2017-04-12T11:32:34","slug":"commissioner-jankovic-at-the-conference-dedicated-to-roma-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ravnopravnost.gov.rs\/en\/commissioner-jankovic-at-the-conference-dedicated-to-roma-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Commissioner Jankovi\u0107 at the conference dedicated to Roma women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greater participation of Roma men and women is needed in the process of creating and making decisions, because members of this national minority know best which measures\u00a0 are necessary for improvement of their position, said Brankica Jankovi\u0107, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, at the opening of the conference \u201eRoma women in Serbia \u2013 achievements, challenges and perspectives\u201c, organized by the Roma National Council. \u201e The fact that almost every other complaint against discrimination on the grounds of nationality is related to Roma people reflects their position, but it is necessary to present positive examples and in such way stimulate and encourage the members of the Roma minority \u201c, said the Commissioner. She presented the example of meeting with the Minister for Education, that was attended by Roma activist and students, with greater number of Roma women who graduated\u00a0 law or are to become medical doctors in the future, who gave good suggestions related to education of Roma population.<\/p>\n<p>Vitomir Mihajlovi\u0107, President of the Roma National Council, said that Roma women are discriminated against in their own community, but that situation is improving, while Andrea Orizio, Chief of the OSCE Mission to Serbia said that Serbia is putting great efforts to improve the position of Roma women, but that there is still much work to be done.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of good practice and achievements that Roma women, in spite of numerous obstacles, have managed to realize in Serbia, were presented as the most important part of conference, by Ana Sa\u0107ipovi\u0107, Vice president of the Roma \u00a0National Council, Marina Simeunovi\u0107 from organization Young Roma Women in the Roma Decade, Slavica Vasi\u0107 from Bibia organization, Jelena Jovanovi\u0107 MP, in the Vojvodina Assembly, as well as Aj\u0161a Ali\u0107 and Zorica Sa\u0107ipovi\u0107.<\/p>\n<p>Among other speakers at the conference were Gordana Stevanovi\u0107, Deputy Ombudsman, Suzana Paunovi\u0107, Director of the Office for Human and Minority Rights, Nicolas Bizel, representative of the EU Delegation, Nenad Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and others.<\/p>\n\n ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greater participation of Roma men and women is needed in the process of creating and making decisions, because members of this national minority know best which measures\u00a0 are necessary for improvement of their position, said Brankica Jankovi\u0107, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, at the opening of the conference \u201eRoma women in Serbia \u2013&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":14,"featured_media":25914,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-26011","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.8 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Commissioner Jankovi\u0107 at the conference dedicated to Roma women &#8226;
