Commissioner Janković at regional conference in Bar “Discrimination in work and employment”

Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, participated at regional conference “Discrimination in work and employment” in Bar, at invitation by Šućko Baković, Ombudsman for Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro.

President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, spoke at the opening of the conference, expressing his confidence that the goals of the conference would be oriented to find solutions for numerous challenges in area of human rights and that adequate mechanisms of protection against discrimination would be found through joint work and exchange of experiences, adding that it is very good that such issues are being recognized and admitted.

Speaking about strengthening of institutional capacities in combating discrimination, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, accented the importance of cooperation with all social stakeholders, prevention and promotion, as well as the importance of mechanisms for achieving full equality.

She stressed that she has very good cooperation with National Employment Service and that she is very pleased to see Director of National Employment Service, Zoran Martinović, at the conference.

National Employment Service implements all recommendation issued by Commissioner and is also active in prevention of discrimination of especially vulnerable groups, recognizing them as the most discriminated and giving them priority in employment action plans – persons with disabilities, Roma population, women and older workers, said the Commissioner.

Within today’s panels, there were also discussions about international and European standards and quasi-judicial practice in combating discrimination, European anti-discrimination standards and directives for efficient actions. In addition, topics of the conference were also the role of equality bodies in combat against discrimination and promotion of anti-discrimination culture.

Beside representatives of Montenegro, speakers at the official part of conference were also Šućko Baković, Ombudsman for Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro, Kemal Purišić, Minister of Work and Social Care in Montengro Government, Sanija Šljivančanin, representative of Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Maryse Daviet, Chief of OSCE Mission in Montenegro, Angela Longo, Chief of Council of Europe Office in Montenegro, and Orhan Usein, leader of Regional Cooperation Council – Roma Integration 2020. In the working part of conference also spoke Ljubinko Mitrović, Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina, beside Commissioner Janković.
